Waiting for Summer Blooms

As the days grow longer and the promise of warm weather teases us, our greenhouse is buzzing with activity. This week marks the beginning of our Mother's Day preparations and the start of our summer annuals, filling the air with anticipation and the earthy scent of fresh soil.

Mother's Day Offerings

This year, we're excited to introduce a charming and eco-friendly option for Mother's Day. We're upcycling vintage baskets and filling them with a delightful array of summer blooms. Picture vibrant petunias, delicate alyssum, nostalgic forget-me-nots, and cheerful impatiens planted in these one-of-a-kind containers. It's a perfect blend of sustainability and beauty that we hope will bring joy to mothers and their loved ones.

Field Focus: Soil Health and Variety

In our fields, we're taking a holistic approach this season, with a strong emphasis on soil health. Rich, nurturing soil is the foundation of stunning blooms, and we're committed to giving our flowers the best start possible. We're also conducting variety trials to discover which blooms capture our customers' hearts the most.

Summer Staples
Our tried-and-true favorites will be making their return:

  • Zinnias in a rainbow of hues

  • Elegant snapdragons

  • Whimsical nigella

  • Bright African marigolds

  • Eye-catching celosia

Experimental Additions
We're also branching out with:

  • Sunflowers in various sizes and colors

  • Dahlias with their intricate petals

  • Delicate ranunculus

Additionally, we're investing in the future by planting flowering bushes, perennials, and biennials. While these won't reach their full blooming potential until next year, we're excited about the long-term beauty they'll bring to our fields.

The Impatient Gardener's Dilemma

I don’t know about you, but this time of year can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions for me. Warm, sunny days tempt me to plant everything outdoors, only to be followed by sudden cold snaps that remind me to be patient. It's a test of willpower to resist the urge to rush the season.

In the meantime, there's a special joy in sinking my hands into the soil again, nurturing seedlings in the little temporary greenhouse, and dreaming of the colorful displays to come. The act of planting and tending to these tiny green promises is a balm for the winter-weary soul.

Preparing for a Blooming Future

With soil health as my primary focus this year, I’m busy marking out new beds and making plans for enriching the soil. The coming weeks will see us adding generous amounts of nutrient-rich compost to ensure our blooms have the best possible growing conditions.

As we work, I can almost feel the warm days approaching. Soon, the fields will be a riot of color and fragrance, buzzing with bees and butterflies. The anticipation of this floral explosion keeps me motivated through these last unpredictable weeks of early spring.

What flowers are you most looking forward to this season?
